The Spirit of the Laws has been overlooked by many commentators over the legal rights of autonomous group in France following the death of Louis XIV. His last 5 books are analysis of medieval French history it designed to prove that it was to protect the liberties of the nation and the inviolability of law. The judicial bodies- the parlements of france possessed independent of intermediary powers to thwart the natural despotic tendencies of an absolute monarchy. It helped the 18th century movement for constitutionalism.
